Warsaw, June 26 (RFE/RL) -- Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, in a speech to the Polish parliament (Sejm) today, reiterated his country's wish to be integrated into the west's political and economic structures.
Kuchma told reporters Ukraine wants to cooperate closely with Germany, France and Poland. He said this cooperation would, in his words, "prevent the danger of a new dividing line being created on our continent."
Kuchma urged Polish parliamentarians to "take account of the interest of democratic Russia and to support the progressive forces in Moscow."
Earlier today, Kuchma met with Polish journalists before paying respect at the Unknown Soldier's monument in Warsaw.
