Sarajevo, 20 August 1996 (RFE/RL) -- NATO-led peacekeeping forces in Bosnia are continuing today their operation to destroy weapons seized from a Bosnian Serb depot.
The implementation force (IFOR) began destroying the weapons yesterday despite protests by Serb leaders that the explosions in a series of pits could affect the local water table.
The 300 tons of ammunition were seized earlier this month in a schoolhouse in Margetici.
Meanwhile, the acting head of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), arrived in Sarajevo today for talks before next month's Bosnian-wide elections.
Flavio Cotti, who also serves as Swiss foreign minister, was due to meet the president of the Muslim-Croat Federation, Kresimir Zubak, and officials of the OSCE and IFOR. The OSCE is overseeing the September 14 poll.
