Moscow, April 4, 1997 (RFE/RL) -- Russia's State Duma speaker Gennady Seleznyov said today that Fuel and Energy Minister Pyotr Rodionov has offered his resignation.
Seleznyov made the announcement during today's Duma plenary session.
Energy ministry spokesman Sergei Slesaryov did not comment on Rodyonov's decision to quit the cabinet, but said the government press-service would release a statement soon.
Earlier in the day, Security Council secretary Ivan Rybkin attacked Rodionov in parliament for holding up negotiations on shipping Caspian Sea oil to Russia through Chechnya.
Rodionov was appointed minister last August.
