Strasbourg, 23 April 1997 (RFE/RL) -- A member of the Latvian delegation to the Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly in Strasbourg was found dead this morning in his hotel room.
Sources with the Latvian delegation in Strasbourg told RFE/RL today that Ivars Kezbers appears to have died of natural causes -- possibly a heart attack. There has been no official announcement by French authorities on the cause of death.
Kezbers was a member of the Latvian parliament with the Democratic Party Saimniek. A party spokesman in Riga confirmed the reports of Kezbers' death. But neither Saimniek officials nor other members of the Latvian delegation in Strasbourg would disclose further details.
