Tehran, 30 May 2003 (RFE/RL) -- Iran's Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi says his country is ready to allow full inspections of its nuclear facilities, but only under certain conditions. Kharrazi said today that Iran is ready to sign the additional protocol to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty allowing tougher inspections. But he said "sanctions, restrictions, and pressures" exerted by the United States and other countries must first be lifted.
Kharrazi also said nuclear technology for peaceful purposes should be put at Tehran's disposal before Iran signs the additional protocol.
The United States has accused Tehran of using its atomic energy program as a cover for the illicit development of nuclear weapons. Iran has always denied the charge.
