Esha Momeni, who has been charged with "acting Against Iran's national security," reportedly spent about 25 days in solitary confinement. She was detained in Tehran's notorious Evin prison.
Momeni's lawyer told RFE/RL's Radio Farda that Momeni has been ordered not to leave the country and will be summoned to court at the appropriate time. He expressed hope that Momeni will be cleared of all charges and that she will be able to leave the country in the near future.
Momeni was arrrested in Tehran on October 15 while visiting Iran from California, where she lives and attends university.
Reports say she was in Iran conducting research on the women's movement and on the One Million Signatures Campaign aimed at reversing discriminatory laws as part of her studies at California State University.
As part of her research, she had videotaped interviews with several women's rights activists in Iran.
Authorities confiscated her video footage and other personal belongings, including her computer.
Women's rights activists in Iran are under increasing pressure from the government over their campaign for equal rights.
