The son of Bishkek Mayor Isa Omurkulov was involved in a traffic accident in the Kyrgyz capital that killed three people, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.
Emergency Situations Ministry officials told RFE/RL that an SUV driven by Azamat Omurkulov, the mayor's son, collided with a vehicle near the Dunlarov Bridge on the highway from Bishkek to Lake Issyk-Kul on August 15.
The driver of the car and his two passengers were killed in the crash and Azamat Omurkulov was injured.
Isa Omurkulov told RFE/RL that his son was involved in the accident and said it happened at night. He said it is hard to determine who was at fault in the crash.
"My son is currently in hospital in a very serious condition," Isa Omurkulov told RFE/RL. "If he is guilty he will be accountable in front of God almighty and the law."
Isa Omurkulov is a member of Prime Minister Almazbek Atambaev's Social Democratic Party.
