The chief of Egypt's constitutional court, Adli Mansour, has been sworn in as acting president less than 24 hours after the country's military removed Islamist President Muhammad Morsi following days of street protests in Cairo and other cities.
Mansour urged Egyptians, who spent 30 years with strongman Hosni Mubarak in the presidency, to maintain their revolutionary ideals of 2011 and not "worship" one leader. Army commander General Abdul Fattah al-Sisi one day earlier told the nation that Morsi had to be removed because he had "failed to meet the demands of the people."
