Indian officials say Pakistani troops have killed five Indian soldiers along the two countries' disputed border in Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on August 6 that the incident happened along the so-called Line of Control, the de facto border dividing the two countries in the north.
India's military called the attack a "gross violation" of a 2003 cease-fire agreement.
A Pakistani Army official has denied any incident took place at the border.
The reported violence comes just days after Pakistan proposed renewing peace talks with India.
Abdullah said the attack does not help normalize or improve relations.
Peace talks were called off in January after an attack in which an Indian soldier was decapitated.
Kashmir, a Muslim-majority territory, is divided into Indian and Pakistani-administered sectors but is claimed in full by both nations.
