Pakistani Air Strike Leaves At Least Four Afghan Civilians Dead

Pakistani forces engaged in a battle with militants along the border with Afghanistan have killed at least four Afghan civilians on the other side of the border.

Abdul Habib Sayed Khel, the police chief in Afghanistan's Konar Province, said Pakistani helicopters on May 31 fired missiles that hit a village in Afghanistan's Dangam district.

Khel claimed more than 100 rockets had been fired into Konar Province already on May 31.

Pakistani forces were attacking a group of militants who ambushed a Pakistani military checkpoint earlier in the day killing one soldier and wounding two others and fled toward the Afghan border.

The military, backed by helicopter gunships, responded to the attack in the restive Bajaur tribal area.

Pakistani military officials said at least 14 militants had been killed so far in that fighting.

Afghan officials have complained that since Pakistan launched an offensive against militant groups along the Afghan border hundreds of shells and rockets have landed in Afghan territory.
