'Poverty Has Us In Its Grip': Afghan Activist Laments Taliban's Treatment Of Women
The Taliban's prohibition against women working has severely hit the budgets of many Afghan families whose main breadwinners were educated females, a co-organizer of Afghan women's protests has told RFE/RL's Radio Azadi. Zahra Mohammadi spoke on a call-in show about Afghan women who have been forced to sell their belongings to survive and others who are desperate after the forced termination of their education. Radio call-in programs produced by RFE/RL's Radio Azadi have become a rare platform to hear dissenting voices after the Taliban took over the country.
