ALMATY -- Workers at the Almaty Train-Producing Factory have held an unsanctioned protest action to demand unpaid wages for May, RFE/RL's Kazakh Service reports.
According to the protesters, the factory's administration recently cut salaries and vacation days and increased prices in the factory cafeteria.
They told journalists they would repeat their action if their demands are not met by the end of the month.
Factory Director Adil Bisimbayev says the overdue salaries will be gradually paid off.
According to Bisimbayev, up to 300 of the plant's 2,000 employees took part in today's protest, but workers say there were about 1,500 protesters.
