GROZNY -- Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov has named Suleiman Geremeyev, a little-known cousin of his close associate Adam Delimkhanov, to represent the republic in the Russian parliament's upper house, the Federation Council, RFE/RL's North Caucasus Service reports.
Geremeyev takes the seat of Umar Dzhabrailov, a wealthy businessman who stepped down earlier this month.
Last month, Geremeyev was summoned for questioning by the Moscow prosecutor's office in connection with the 2008 assassination of former State Duma Deputy Ruslan Yamadayev.
As a senator, Geremeyev will enjoy immunity from prosecution.
