TBILISI -- Two Georgian military officers have been officially charged with attempting to overthrow the government, RFE/RL's Georgian Service reports.

Koba Otanadze and Levan Ameridze were detained on May 20 in Tbilisi. Both were seriously wounded and a third wanted officer, Georgi Krialashvili, was killed by Interior Ministry forces during the operation to arrest them.

All three were wanted for their part in organizing a mutiny by a tank brigade at the Mukhrovani military base on May 5.

Lawyer Onise Mebonia, who represents Otanadze and Ameridze, said that he has not received the official documents related to the case. He said the defense has many questions for investigators about the circumstances of the officers' arrest and their role in the mutiny.
