Conservative presidential candidateMohsen Rezai, who isn't expected to poll well in the June 12 election, has been under scrutiny in the last few days.

Bloggers and Facebook-ers are circulating a link to an Interpol wanted list featuring Rezai.

He is among the Iranian officials who are wanted by Argentina for their alleged role in the 1994 bombing of a Jewish center in Buenos Aires. Rezai has denied the allegations.

Rezai has made a few rather unusual comments in recent weeks, and it isn't clear how they'll play out.

In a move to gain the support of female voters he has been promising to include women in his cabinet. He has also said that, if elected, he would put housewives on the government pay roll.

And according to the “Entekhabnews” website today, Rezai told a story about watching a football match with some clerics.

Rezai said that when Iran scored a goal and the commentator screamed “Goal!” he suggested that instead the commentator should have shouted “Allah Akbar” (God is great) several times.

The comment might have gone down well with the clerics, but with Iran's soccer-mad youth, it probably isn't the sort of thing they really warm to.
