DUSHANBE, April 6, 2009 (RFE/RL) -- A source close to the Tajik Foreign Ministry has confirmed to RFE/RL's Tajik Service that a serious traffic accident in downtown Dushanbe involved Kazakhstan's ambassador to Tajikistan, Abutalib Akhmetov.
An anonymous source in the ministry told RFE/RL that no one was injured in the crash.
That conflicts with the Tajik news agency Asia Plus, which quoted Tajik Interior Ministry officials on April 4 saying that Akhmetov was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and that some people were hospitalized because of the accident.
