ASTANA -- The Kazakh National Bank has issued a new 1,000 tenges ($6.60) banknote to mark the 2011 Asian Winter Games that will be hosted by Kazakhstan, RFE/RL's Kazakh Service reports.
Kazakh National Bank Deputy Chairman Bisenghali Tadzhiyaqov told journalists that the banknote bears the emblem of the Seventh Asian Winter Games that are scheduled to be held in Astana and Almaty from January 30-February 6. The Kazakh government has allocated hundreds of millions of dollars to build new facilities and to refurbish older ones for the games.
The first Asian Winter Games were held in 1986 in Sapporo, Japan.
