ST. PETERSBURG -- A Russian nongovernmental organization is accusing a Russian military officer of beating two conscripts.
The NGO Mothers Of Soldiers In St. Petersburg says the acting commander of a Russian military unit in Leningrad Oblast severely beat two soldiers last weekend.
The NGO tells RFE/RL's Russian Service that the officer was drunk when the incident occurred.
Both soldiers were hospitalized with concussions, nose fractures, and brain and eye traumas.
A police investigation is under way.
