More than 1,000 local residents have been evacuated in the last 24 hours in the Altai Krai region in Russia's Siberia, which has been hit by devastating floods.
Regional officials say some 1,400 homes and almost 1,900 household plots were inundated in the region's five districts.
Water levels reportedly started to decline in some areas on June 9.
However, a spokesman for Russia'sn Emergencies Ministry, Aleksandr Drobyshevsky, said on June 9 that the flood threat remains high in the regional capital, Barnaul.
Regional authorities have estimated the damage caused by the floods at $40 million.
The floods have damaged 19 electricity transmission line supports, 230 kilometers of roads, and destroyed 27 bridges in the region.
