MINSK -- The sister of Belarusian opposition activist Alyaksandr Klaskouski spent the night in a Minsk police station where she says she was beaten by police, RFE/RL's Belarus Service reports.
Volha Klaskouskaya wrote on her Facebook page that police came to her apartment in Minsk at around 1:00 a.m. on May 5, put her in handcuffs and brought her to the police station where she spent the night.
Klaskouskaya said the police beat and harassed her, saying she would be charged with attacking police and insulting President Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
She was released and allowed to go home later in the morning of May 5. Klaskouskaya said she refused to sign any documents at the police station.
Volha Klaskouskaya and her mother, Lyudmila, have recently returned to Belarus from a long-term stay in Europe aimed at garnering support for Klaskouski, who has been in a pretrial detention center in Minsk for more than four months.
Klaskouski has been charged with organizing and participating in mass unrest on December 19, when thousands of opposition activists protested the official results of the presidential election held that day in which Lukashenka was declared the landslide winner.
