The Week Ahead is a detailed listing of key events of the coming week affecting RFE/RL's broadcast region.


MONDAY, September 26:

Azerbaijan: Turkey and Azerbaijan are scheduled to complete gas talks.

EU: European Parliament Plenary Session to begin in Strasbourg (to September 29).

Georgia: Aleksandr Ankvab to be inaugurated as president of Georgia's breakaway Abkhazia.

Iran/Sudan: Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad visits Khartoum.

OSCE: Warsaw hosts the largest annual human rights gathering in Europe - The OSCE Human Dimension Implementation Meeting (to October 7).

Russia: Ulyanovsk hosts an international congress titled: Culture as a Resource of Modernization. President of Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev to attend the event ( to September 28).

Uzbekistan: Uzbek Foreign Minister Elyor Ganiyev to is scheduled to address the General Debate of the 66th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

World: World Heart Day.


TUESDAY, September 27:

Armenia/France: Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian to visit Paris.

Ukraine: Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko's trial to resume in Kyiv.

World: World Tourism Day.


WEDNESDAY, September 28:

Pakistan/India: Trade Ministers of India and Pakistan due to meet in New Delhi.

Turkey: Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to host Istanbul Finance Summit (to September 29).


THURSDAY, September 29:

Norway: The 2011 Rafto Prize winner to be announced at a press conference at the Rafto Human Rights House in Bergen.

EU/Eastern Partnership: Poland hosts a meeting of heads of state and government of EU countries and the Eastern Partnership beneficiary countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine).


FRIDAY, September 30:

Russia: Murmansk hosts the annual Arctic Forum 2011 (to October 2).


SATURDAY, October 1:

UN: International Day of Older Persons.

World: International Music Day.


SUNDAY, October 2:

UN: International Day of Nonviolence.

Serbia: Belgrade to host gay pride parade.
