Prosecutors in Georgia have summoned former President Mikheil Saakashvili for questioning as a witness in criminal investigations.
In a March 22 statement, the prosecutor's office said Saakashvili was summoned to appear on March 27 in connection with 10 cases, including a possible probe into the 2005 death of a former prime minister and close ally, Zurab Zhvania.
Saakashvili is not in Georgia at the moment, having taken a lecturing post at a U.S. university since leaving office at the end of his second and final term in November 2013.
Dozens of his allies have been placed under investigation for corruption and abuse of office charges since Bidzina Ivanishvili's Georgian Dream coalition took power after the October 2012 parliamentary polls.
