Germany says it has arrested a Tajik man suspected of joining the Islamic State (IS) extremist group in Syria.
Prosecutors said in a statement on June 22 that Mukhamadsaid S., whose full name wasn't given, had been arrested in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The 30-year-old is accused of traveling from Tajikistan to Syria in April 2015, where prosecutors said he joined the IS group.
The man is alleged to have fought alongside IS militants and to have appeared in videos urging his countrymen to join the extremist group.
Prosecutors said Mukhamadsaid S. left Syria no later than the beginning of September 2015, and then ended up in Germany.
IS fighters captured large swaths of Syrian and Iraqi territory in a lightning-fast offensive in 2014.
