Ingush leader Yunus-Bek Yevkurov has said that authorities believe the attack on August 19 at a funeral for a slain policeman, which killed eight more officers, was organized by Doku Umarov, the leader of Islamist rebels in Russia's North Caucasus.
"We know that Doku Umarov organized the terrorist attack," Yevkurov said.
The Ingush leader said a local militant band led by Artur Getagazhev was responsible for the attack, "but it's no secret to anyone that Doku Umarov is behind them."
Yevkurov also said tests on the body of the suicide bomber who carried out the attack confirmed it was Khamzat Aldiyev, a 34-year-old resident of the Sunzha district who was wanted on suspicions of being a member of a terrorist group.
