Security forces in the Russian Caucasus republic of Ingushetia have launched an operation to kill or capture militants they had surrounded in the northern Sunzha district.
The local Interior Ministry said a group of up to 10 militants were surrounded in a house near the village of Alkun on April 12.
The militants opened fire on security forces, who used mortars during the gunbattle.
Local security officials said no security troops were injured in the firefight.
A number of militants were believed killed or injured.
