YEREVAN -- Iranian President Hassan Rohani visited Armenia on December 21 as part of a swing through three former Soviet republics.
Rohani was expected to discuss bilateral ties with Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian and Prime Minister Karen Karapetian.
The two presidents were set to attend an Armenian-Iranian business forum.
The December 21-23 trip will also take Rohani to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, Central Asian nations that are members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) along with China, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Iran has observer status in the SCO. It applied for full membership in March 2008, but due to the UN sanctions against Tehran the membership was denied.
After the UN sanctions were lifted in January, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced support for Iran's full membership in the SCO.
