Iraqi officials say at least 40 people have been killed in an attack on a Sunni mosque in northeastern Iraq.
A police officer said that gunmen broke into the mosque and opened fire in Imam Wais village, near Baquba in Diyala Province, some 120 kilometers northeast of Baghdad.
News agencies quote some sources as blaming Shi'ite militiamen for the attack, while others pointed to Islamic State militants.
The attack comes as sectarian tensions soar in Iraq in the wake of sweeping territorial gains by the Sunni extremist group Islamic State in recent weeks.
