Iraqi security officials say gun and bomb attacks north of Baghdad have killed eight people, including a town mayor's bodyguard and his female relatives.
In the town of Tamiyah, about 45 kilometers north of Baghdad, gunmen armed with silenced pistols entered the home of bodyguard Adnan Hezbar overnight -- killing him and four female relatives.
The attackers also destroyed Hezbar's house with explosives.
In the town of Baquba in Diyala Province, a roadside bomb exploded in front of a popular cafe, killing two civilians.
A bomb attached to a motorcycle also exploded near an Iraqi Army patrol in Saadiyah, killing one Iraqi soldier and injuring four others.
