Big soccer matches are well known around the world for being tense, often explosive, affairs.
In some countries, like Iran, for example, the passion of football fans can be especially intimidating.
But, in the Iranian city of Isfahan, they seem to have taken the intensity of football rivalry to another level.
During a recent high-profile Asian Champions League encounter between Iranian champions Sepahan and Al-Ahli of Saudi Arabia, one player had a lucky escape when he inadvertently detonated what appears to have been a grenade.
According to reports, Sepahan midfielder Adel Kolahkaj was unaware of the danger when he stumbled across an object lying on the field of play.
As so often happens, he simply picked it up and tossed it off the playing area where it exploded on landing.
Luckily no one seems to have been hurt in the incident.
The game ended in a scoreless draw.
