Officials in Russia’s southeastern Siberian region of Zabaikalye say an investigation has been launched into the murder of a Japanese citizen.
Police said the 31-year-old man, Ohnita Kaiti, was found dead on May 22 with at least 30 stab wounds.
His body was found on the Chita-Irkutsk highway. Officials said the victim was believed to have been travelling across Russia on his motorcycle.
They said it appears he had most likely set up a tent not far from a village to spend the night when he was attacked.
Police said the victim's personal belongings -- including cash, mobile phone and Suzuki motorcycle -- have been found by investigators.
