Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov says he is ready to adopt a giraffe facing slaughter in a zoo in Denmark.

Kadyrov wrote on Instagram on February 13 that he was "infuriated" by the killing a healthy 18-month-old giraffe named Marius in a Copenhagen zoo on February 9 and said he is ready to shelter a 7-year-old giraffe that may meet the same fate.

The Jyllands Park Zoo says it may have to kill one of its giraffes -- also named Marius -- because they are trying to acquire a female giraffe and the zoo can't keep two males and a female.

It said Marius's genes are already represented in an international breeding program.

Kadyrov said he was outraged that a giraffe was "shot dead on contrived motives," dismembered, and fed to lions while children watched.

He said he can guarantee Marius "good conditions."
