The European Union's foreign-policy chief, Catherine Ashton, has held talks with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev in Astana.
Ashton told journalists they discussed economic and trade ties between the EU and Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan's joining the World Trade Organization, regional security, and regional integration.
This is Ashton's fourth and last stop on her tour of Central Asia.
She arrived in Astana from the Tajik capital, Dushanbe, where she held talks with the Tajik leadership and opposition groups on November 29.
On November 28, Ashton was in Uzbekistan, where she met with top government officials and human rights activists.
Her Central Asian tour began on November 27 with a visit to Kyrgyzstan.
