Kyiv claimed on December 26 that it had destroyed the Novocherkassk, a Russian naval landing ship, in what appears to be one of the most significant strikes against the Black Sea Fleet in months.

An RFE/RL correspondent reports that the explosion was so strong it shattered windows and woke up residents in different parts of the city.

If confirmed, this would be the latest successful attack on a Russian Black Sea Fleet ship while it was in port. The Novocherkassk had previously been damaged during an attack on March 24 at the port of Berdyansk (pictured) when the landing ship Saratov was destroyed and sunk.
