JAL, Kyrgyzstan -- Police are investigating an explosion at the home of a local politician in northern Kyrgyzstan, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.
An explosive device detonated in the yard of the house belonging to Kubatbek Duishenaliev in the village of Jal, in the Chui region near Bishkek. Duishenaliev is the head of the neighboring village of Orok.
No one was injured by the explosion.
Duishenaliev told RFE/RL the attack might have been connected to his professional activities. He said he recently initiated an investigation into the activities of his predecessor, who is suspected of the illegal sale of 27 hectares of land.
Duishenaliev added that he had received several threats from the former Chui governor.
Interior Ministry spokesman Rakhmatullo Akhmedov told RFE/RL that the incident was being investigated.
