Kyrgyz Police Seize Large Amount Of Heroin

Kyrgyzstan's Interior Ministry says law enforcement officers have arrested a man who was transporting a large amount of heroin in his automobile.

Police found almost 60 kilograms of heroin in the car on April 27, after stopping the vehicle not far from the border with Tajikistan.

The man, a Kyrgyz citizen from the southern Batken region, has been allegedly involved in illegal drug trafficking from Tajikistan to Russia and elsewhere in Europe via Kyrgyzstan.

The ministry said May 2 that an investigation is under way.

Based on reporting by mvd.kg and Interfax

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
