BISHKEK -- Kyrgyz Prime Minister Almazbek Atambaev has publicly criticized sacked acting Prosecutor-General Kubatbek Baibolov and opposition parliament deputies, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.
Atambaev said in Bishkek at an event on April 7 to mark the first anniversary of the ousting of President Kurmanbek Bakiev that Baibolov told him recently he believes Kyrgyzstan has a difficult future and he therefore plans to move abroad.
President Roza Otunbaeva sacked Baibolov on March 31 for his wife's alleged involvement in corrupt financial deals with MegaCom, the country's leading communications service provider.
Baibolov reacted angrily to his sacking and announced last week that he and his wife are prepared to prove their innocence in court. He accused Otunbaeva and Atambaev of themselves being corrupt and said their Social Democratic Party had illegally used money during the parliamentary election campaign last year.
Baibolov added that he has information that proves First Deputy Prime Minister Omurbek Babanov is involved in illegal financial activities.
Last week, Baibolov told RFE/RL that his sacking was a politically motivated decision done in preparation for the presidential election due in the fall. He said Otunbaeva wants Atambaev to become president and that Atambaev, in turn, wants Babanov to be the next prime minister.
Baibolov's wife is alleged to have sold the family's house in Bishkek for an exorbitant price to a small, Russian-led company involved in managing MegaCom. The sale reportedly came around the same time that Baibolov dismissed criminal charges against some officials of the Russian-led company who are suspected of stealing money from MegaCom.
Baibolov's wife and children are reported to be living in the United States.
Kyrgyzstan's coalition government is made up of Respublika, Ata-Jurt, and the Social Democratic Party.
Meanwhile, Atambaev also said on April 7 that "well-known criminal authorities are standing behind some parliament deputies." He said some deputies are still connected with Bakiev -- who left office after violent antigovernment protests one year ago today -- and his son Maksim.
Atambaev added that Akylbek Japarov, an Ar-Namys (Dignity) party faction member in parliament, has been involved in some suspicious financial dealings with KyrgyzTeleCom.
