ISFANA, Kyrgyzstan -- A court in the southern Kyrgyz town of Isfana will hold hearings on May 31 into the circumstances of a young Kyrgyz soldier's death, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.
Nazirbek Abdrazak Uulu, 19, was severely beaten by five other Kyrgyz soldiers at the Katrang checkpoint on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border in the Batken region on March 3. He died in hospital 10 days later, RFE/RL reported.
Kyrgyzstan's Military Prosecutor launched an investigation into the incident.
Hazing has long been a serious problem in the Kyrgyz army, proving lethal in some cases.
On May 26, another Kyrgyz soldier, Chubak Bakyt Uulu, 18, who was drafted into the army just days earlier, was hospitalized with serious injuries after he was allegedly beaten by a sergeant.
