Attempt To Detain Former Kyrgyz President Meets Bloody Resistance

Kyrgyz special forces were locked in a battle with supporters of former President Almazbek Atambaev, who are trying to prevent his detention after security officials stormed his residence on August 7. RFE/RL correspondents inside the compound captured dramatic video of one of the auxiliary buildings on fire and the former president's defenders in the courtyard in the darkness with Atambaev and the police forces thought to be locked inside another building. The fire was put out as the standoff continued.
