Kyrgyz Security Services Detain Militants Allegedly Trained In Syria

Six members of an alleged terrorist ring have been detained in Kyrgyzstan's southern region of Osh.

The Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security (UKMK) said on February 17 that some of the group members had been trained at camps of international terrorist organizations in Syria.

According to the UKMK, the suspects planned "to acquire firearms and special hardware for perpetrating terror attacks in Osh and Bishkek."

Osh city police investigators opened a criminal case on a number of counts, including an assault plot, public appeals for and justification of terrorism, formation of a criminal ring, and illegal possession of arms, explosives, and extremist literature.
