Kyrgyz students in Cairo are said to be staying in their dormitories and not venturing outside, as the turmoil sparked by mass protests continues, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.
Mavlyanbek Kadyr-uulu, who is studying at Cairo's Al-Azhar University, told RFE/RL that he and his fellow Kyrgyz students were sticking together.
He said university lectures were suspended just before the mass protests against President Hosni Mubarak erupted a week ago.
Kadyr-uulu said the chaos increased due to the release of many prisoners from the city's jails, but that the situation, while tense, has since improved.
The Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry said on January 31 that at this point there was no need to evacuate Kyrgyz citizens from Egypt.
Of the 254 Kyrgyz nationals currently in Egypt, the majority are students at Egyptian universities, chiefly Al-Azhar.
