Some 100 Kyrgyz policemen picketed the State Committee for National Security (UKMK) headquarters in Bishkek on February 15, demanding a full investigation into the death of one of their colleagues while in the custody of the agency.
Aibek Eshbaev, 46, was arrested by the UKMK earlier this month on allegations of bribery and extortion.
He was found hanged to death in his cell on February 13. In a protest on February 14, some 200 of Eshbaev’s relatives and friends blocked the Osh-Batken highway in southern Kyrgyzstan, saying they do not believe that he committed suicide and demanding a transparent probe into his death.
