International Day Of The Victims Of Enforced Disappearances Marked In Islamabad, Pakistan
Dozens of human rights activists gathered in Islamabad to mark the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances on August 30. Rights activists say more than 8,000 people have been abducted by Pakistan's intelligence agencies in the name of anti-militant operations, leaving their families with no knowledge of their whereabouts or whether they are still alive. The Pakistani authorities reject the allegations, saying that many of the disappeared were either killed in anti-Taliban operations or crossed into Afghanistan to hide there.
