Pakistani Supreme Court Probes Balochistan Mass Grave

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan's Supreme Court has held a session on the discovery of a mass grave in the southwestern province of Balochistan.

Officials say 13 decomposed corpses were found in the grave, which was discovered in January in the Khuzdar district.

Ethnic Baluchis say the grave included many more corpses and that the victims were Baluchi men who were abducted by Pakistani security agents as part of a campaign to stamp out a decades-old Baluch separatist insurgency.

Pakistani officials deny any such campaign of violence targeting Baluchi.

In the Supreme Court hearing on February 4, Khuzdar administrator Waheed Shah said only two of the corpses from the grave have been identified so far.

The Supreme Court has opened its own probe into the case amid calls from rights activists for a United Nations investigation.
