KHAR, Pakistan – Up to eight people are reported to have been killed and others injured in a bomb explosion in northwestern Pakistan, near the Afghanistan border.
The blast occurred at a market in Tehsil Salarzai, in the Bajaur tribal agency.
Hospital officials have confirmed to RFE/RL’s Radio Mashaal that eight bodies have been received.
The report says all the dead and injured are civilians.
Officials say initial indications suggest that the blast was caused by a remote-controlled device.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but the Pakistani Taliban have carried out previous attacks in the region targeting groups supporting Pakistani military operations against extremists.
