Five Pakistani soldiers and four suspected militants were killed on September 5 in a clash in Pakistan's North Waziristan, a military statement said.
The military statement said the security forces were conducting an operation in the Boya area of North Waziristan.
The five Pakistani soldiers, including a captain, and the four suspected militants who died were killed in an exchange of gunfire, the statement said.
North Waziristan is a tribal district that shares a border with southeastern Afghanistan. The area was once known as the base of the Pakistani Taliban, also known as the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The military statement said security forces were acting on intelligence when they conducted the raid.
North Waziristan has witnessed a series of killings over the past six months despite an indefinite cease-fire between the banned TTP and the government. Pakistani authorities have been in contact with the TTP's leadership to discuss a peace agreement.
The recent attacks have raised concerns the TTP, a separate group but allied with the Afghan Taliban, is regrouping in the area.
