Pakistan's military says two of its soldiers, including an officer, were killed when militants opened fire on an army vehicle on patrol in a northwestern tribal district.
A statement said that the attack took place on December 12 in North Waziristan bordering Afghanistan.
The dead soldiers included a second lieutenant. Both men were aged 21.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
Violence in Pakistan has declined in recent years following a series of military offensives against militants along the country's northwestern border, but militant groups have continued to carry out deadly attacks.
On December 5, at least six people were killed in a roadside-bomb blast in North Waziristan. The dead reportedly included both army recruits and bystanders.
