Pakistan Warns India About Cross-Border Firing

Pakistan's army chief has warned India about provocations along the Line of Control that separates the two countries, saying Pakistan would respond to such violations.

General Raheel Sharif was visiting Pakistani troops near the Indian border on February 26 when he accused India of repeated cease-fire violations.

Sharif said India's frequent violations of the cease-fire were a "distraction for Pakistan from its campaign against terrorism."

Sharif's comments came with Indian Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar scheduled to visit Pakistan next week to resume talks between the two countries after a six-month break.

Pakistan and India have fought three major wars since the two states were formed after British India was partitioned in 1947.

The two countries also are in a dispute over the Jammu and Kashmir state, which both New Delhi and Islamabad claim as their own.
