Poland Seizes $10 Million Worth Of Heroin Smuggled From Ukraine

Authorities in Poland say customs officers seized heroin worth an estimated $10 million that was hidden in a truck from Ukraine.

The 150 kilograms of the substance is described as one of the biggest seizures of the narcotic in Europe in years.

The Polish Customs Service said the drug, wrapped in 300 plastic bags, was discovered by officers as the truck tried to cross into Poland near the town of Medyka early on April 4.

The Polish Finance Ministry said the drugs had a black market value of 30 million zlotys, or $10 million.

Jacek Kapica, head of the Customs Service, said in a statement that "if the narcotic had not been intercepted on the border, up to 600,000 units of the drug could have reached our streets."
