Newly Elected Pope Francis Greets Crowds At Vatican

White smoke spewed from the chimney of the Vatican's Sistine Chapel late on March 13, announcing the election of a new pope. Jorge Bergoglio of Argentina is the first-ever pope from the Americas and the first from outside Europe in more than a millennium. He appeared before the crowds as the newly anointed Pope Francis.
