Russian presidential spokesman Dmitri Peskov said Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych have held brief talks in Sochi.
According to Peskov, the two presidents discussed trade and economic issues at their meeting on December 6.
Yanukovych arrived in Sochi after making an official visit to China.
Meanwhile in Ukraine, demonstrations continued on December 6 against the government's decision to forgo signing an Association Agreement with the European Union and instead seek better trade ties with Russia.
